Singing and so much more
We encourage, challenge and inspire girls in the Training Levels as they take their performing arts education to the next stage.
Our Training Levels are Allegro, Avanti, Prelude and Concert Level and include girls in Grade 3 and above (based on school grade).
Girls are encouraged to try a free class before joining, which will provide a taste of the range of activities we offer.
The curriculum in our training levels includes singing, movement, drama, musicianship, part singing, presentation and performance skills. Girls develop these skills through vocal warm ups and singing activities, drama, team-building and movement games, as well as learning repertoire and choreographed routines for the mid-year and end-of-year performances. Girls may remain in Concert Level – our highest training level – until they complete Year 12.
Our vertical learning approach means that we are able to encourage all girls in their weekly classes – whether this is her first taste of the performing arts, or she has previous experience. Increasingly, singing as part of a group is being recognised as beneficial to individuals’ mental and physical health and wellbeing. In our experience, girls thrive as they learn, play and perform with friends. While opportunities exist for selected choristers to extend their skills as soloists, the primary focus of the choir’s program is on singing in community.
Over the years we have played a role in ‘growing up’ thousands of young girls. Parents value the hidden elements of our curriculum – a focus on developing confidence, self esteem, public speaking skills, discipline, presentation and team work. We find that our focus on mentoring and role modelling is an aspect of our program that sets us apart from similar organisations.
Girls who successfully complete at least one year of training in the Concert level are eligible to audition for our Senior Performance groups, Camerata and Performing Choir. These choristers are generally high school aged and are accomplished young performers, dazzling audiences with their performances at high profile events. Many of them started their journey with the choir aged between 5 and 8.
We encourage all girls to attend a free trial class before joining to experience what it’s like at the AGC. It’s not necessary for girls to prepare anything for this class and your daughter will not be required to sing by herself. She will be ‘buddied’ up with one of our current choristers and will participate in the class activities with the other girls, allowing her to get a feel for what weekly classes are like.
