Why performing arts education matters for your daughter
Incorporating arts education into a child’s life is a gift that extends far beyond the stage. The skills developed through the arts such as problem-solving and communication, have a direct impact on academic performance and emotional well-being. In today’s cost-of-living climate, it’s important to recognise that investing in the performing arts offers lasting value. The junior@agc program provides a space for emotional expression and helps girls tap into their potential while forming lasting friendships through shared experiences.
“AGC has been the best thing that happened to our girl. She has developed so many skills and interests ever since. For someone who was so timid to someone that loves to be part of everything centre stage – it has been quite a journey”
– NSW parent
The junior@agc curriculum
The junior@agc curriculum offers young girls a well-rounded performing arts education that grows with them. For many participants, this is their first formal introduction to performing arts outside of school or kindergarten. Through play-based activities, girls develop vocal, dance, and drama skills while building social and emotional confidence. For young girls, junior@agc lessons complement schooling by fostering teamwork and discipline, which helps to promote collaboration and time management skills. The program also builds emotional intelligence in a fun, supportive environment, helping girls progress at their own pace while strengthening skills that benefit them both on and off the stage.
“Since being a little girl and only child Eva always loved singing and acting. I feel that AGC helped her tremendously with her confidence and feeling part of a big family.” – WA Parent
How arts education enhances academic and personal growth
The benefits of arts education extend beyond the classroom. Research has shown that early exposure to music and performing arts improves verbal memory, reading ability, and overall cognitive function. Learning about rhythm and music structure also helps to increase focus and boost spatial-temporal skills, which are key for subjects like maths and science. The ‘hidden curriculum’, which focuses on public speaking, presentation skills, and self-confidence, ensures that our students are prepared for success outside of classes. So you can see, our junior@agc choristers don’t just learn music – they develop the cognitive and social tools needed for academic success and emotional resilience.
“AGC is my daughter’s happy place, a space where she can be herself and journey through a high-quality program that offers her growth in so many areas. She has made friendships across Australia to last a lifetime.” – SA Parent
